African Nonviolence and Peacebuilding Network meeting

Back to information on the Small Actions, Big Movements: The Continuum of Nonviolence conference

The African Nonviolence and Peacebuilding Network will meet together on 1st July and 4th July for full day meetings, as well as for short daily meetings through the Small Actions, Big Movements conference.

The draft agenda for 1st July is below.

On 4th July, the Network will be meeting in partnership with the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict.

9 am Meeting of Existing Steering Committee

11 am Welcome and Opening Reports: the birth and idea of a Network, An examination of what has (and hasn’t) been done: 2012 – present

(Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge and Sipho Theys, with a brief report from the WRI Africa Working Group and other international bodies from Matt Meyer)

12 pm Go-round: Who is in the room? Sharing of organizational-vocational/national-regional/socio-political/gendered identities

(everyone, approximately 5-10 minutes each, facilitated by Miles Tanhira and Steve Sharra)

1:30 pm Break for lunch, informal meeting and networking

2:30 pm Defining terms, Determining needs: Open discussion on our working definitions of nonviolence, peace-building and how they effect who we want to get involved in the Network. (facilitated by Moses John Monday and Elavie Ndura)

4 pm Getting concrete: Who will carry on what work around website and media; organizational structure and leadership; outreach and international support mechanisms (possible small groups to deepen discussion on each of these sub-topics)

5:30 pm Brief report-back from small groups and preparing for work on the days to come (facilitated by Laura Pollecut and Javier Garate)

6 pm Communal Ethiopian dinner
