ISRAEL: Refuseniks in prison again

en

Several refuseniks are presently imprisoned in Israel, most of them serve repeated prison sentences. Besides Jonathan Ben-Artzi (ISR12371) and Uri Ya'akobi (ISR12376), whose cases were reported on 14 November 2002 (http://wri-irg.org/news/htdocs/14112002a.html), three other refuseniks were imprisoned recently.

Yoni Yechezkel (ISR12372) has just received his fourth prison term, bringing the total up to 84 days. He first served 14 days in prison in August 2002, and was sentenced to a further 28 days on 15 October. He was again sentenced after being released, and now he received his fourth prison sentence. He is probably held in Military Prison No 6.

Dror Broimel (ISR12373) received a fourth sentence on 5 November 2002, a further 28 days, bringing his total prison time up to 91 days. Dror Briomel was first sentenced on 5 September, and was again sentenced on 26 September and 23 October. He is probably held in Military Prison No 4.

Haggai Matar (ISR12701) received a second prison sentence, this time of 28 days. He was first sentenced to 14 days in prison on 23 October, which he spent in Military Prison No 4. Haggai Matar is one of the founders of the "Shministim" movement - the movement of high school students who declare their refusal to serve in the Occupied Territories. This years' "Seniors' letter" (which can be found at http://oznik.com/petitions/020917.html) was signed by more than 210 high school students.
