Conscientious objectors Atamurat Suvkhanov and Begench Shakhmuradov
Use this form to send the letter below to the relevant authority (Ambassador Meret Bayramovich Orazov). You can add your own notes in a separate box after the standard text, if you wish. You must include a name, address, and email address; a copy will be sent to you with a cc to the WRI office (so we have a record of how many email letters have been sent out for this particular case).
I am very concerned about the continued imprisonment of conscientious objectors in Turkmenistan. I now learned that Atamurat Suvkhanov has been sentenced to 18 months'imprisonment in December 2004, and Begench Shakhmuradov to one year's imprisonment in February.
I am especially concerned that the whereabouts of Begench Shakhmuradov are presently not known, and urge you to inform his family about his whereabouts. I am also concerned about their health, as there are numerous reports about abuse of religious prisoners in Turkmenistan.
I call on Turkmenistan to recognise the human right to conscientious objection, and to release all imprisoned conscientious objectors.
I call on you to respect human rights.
