Dear Moshe Ya'alon,

Seif Abu Seif, a conscientious objector who is 18 years old from Shfaraam, has been imprisoned for his refusal to join the Israeli army.

He was sentenced to 20 days imprisonment on December 5th and is now in Military Prison no. 6.

Seif Abu Seif refuses to enlist in the Israeli Army based on beliefs and conscience. He claims his human right to conscientious objection, as guaranteed by Article 18 of the ICCPR. In a decision from January 2007, the United Nations Human Rights Committee recognised the right to conscientious objection as a legitimate exercise of the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion, as guaranteed by Article 18 ICCPR.

I urge you to immediately release Seif Abu Seif, all other conscientious objectors - including Omar Saad, also currently imprisoned in Military Prison 6 - and ensure that they are not re-imprisoned in future.

Yours sincerely,
