Breaking Ranks: New issue of RAMALC’s magazine

On 19 August, the Latin American and Caribbean Antimilitarist Network (RAMALC) launched a new issue of its magazine, Breaking Ranks (Rompiendo Filas in Spanish). Bringing together statements, articles and opinion pieces, this issue offers a current perspective on the situation in the region, looking at militarism and the far-right structures that sustain it. It also reminds us of the importance of nonviolent antimilitarist resistance in the face of conflict, war, and the militarisation of bodies, lives and territories.

It is true that, after 12 years of building RAMALC together, perhaps the stories unfolding across our territories are no more hopeful in the face of fascism and the far right. Yet the resistance we speak of can be found in our dignified and freedom-seeking journey; it can be found in this antimilitarist bulletin, which brings together voices from diverse territories to remind us that, in many places across Latin America, the Caribbean and the world, we know ourselves to be connected, beyond any border. Our struggles for freedom and for a life without war or authoritarianism are finding their way forward. We keep inventing worlds!

In this context, it is essential to continue developing, strengthening and sustaining antimilitarist practices and nonviolent alternatives as ways of resisting the different conflicts and the militarisation affecting the region.
