Belgium: MEPs join runway protest against US nuclear bombs

Four activists stand in a runway with a banner reading "Europe free of Nuclear Weapons"

Members of the European Parliament joined members of Agir Pour la Paix, one of WRI's Belgian affiliates, in occupying the runway of the Kleine-Brogel military base, in protest of the ongoing siting of US nuclear missiles there, one month ahead of a NATO summit in Brussels. They were arrested, alongside a number of activists who staged a die-in protest outside the gate. It is estimated that there are 10-20 US B61 nuclear bombs stationed at Kleine Brogel, and between 160 and 240 weapons stationed at sites across Europe.
