International Seminar: War Profiteering and Peace Movement Responses
Organised by Justícia i Pau (Centre Delàs), Fundació per la Pau, War Resisters' International & the European Network Against Arms Trade.
This seminar will bring together representatives from organisations from all over the world that campaign against different forms and aspects of war profiteering – the reaping of financial benefits from conflict and war – for three days of mutual learning and network building.
The organisers have worked extensively on coordinating work against war profiteering on the international level. It is our aim that this seminar becomes the birthplace of a truly global network of action against war profiteers. Such a global network is essential for effectively challenging war itself in the era of globalized economy.

12 April 2011 Worldwide
Global Day of Action on Military Spending
In 2009 alone, global military spending rose to an all-time high amount of $1.53 TRILLION!
Because we encounter countless crises in today’s world -poverty, hunger, lack of education, poor health care, environmental issues – it is essential that we come together and create a global movement focusing on what IS important: human lives and their needs. It really is up to us… if not, then who? But we must act NOW!
We are organizing a Global Day of Action on Military Spending on April 12, 2011 to coincide with the release of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute’s (SIPRI) new annual figures on world military expenditures. On this day, people on all continents will join together in joint actions to focus public, political, and media attention on the costs of military spending and the need for new priorities. Such events will help us to build the international network around this issue.
Join us in this historic Global Day of Action on Military Spending.

International Action Camp Against Military Exercise Area NEAT in Northern Sweden + WRI Council Meeting
Seminar: 23 - 24 July
Day of Action: 26 July
Northern Sweden as a Training Ground for War
Europe’s largest overland military test range is called North European Aerospace Test range (NEAT) and is situated in the north of Sweden. The area, that covers 24 000 square kilometers, is used for testing missiles, combat aircrafts and unmanned aerial vehicles. This summer the U.S. Air Forces in Europe used it to practice bomb dropping, and last year Nato Response Force used the area for Nato's largest air exercise that year.
War Starts Here
That war is unavoidable or necessary is a pure lie, and that war is something that happens far away is also a lie. Wars that are being fought in Afghanistan and Iraq are trained and prepared for right here. Today's advanced technology is used to maximize the damage on the ground while at the same time minimizing the risk of the attacker.
Let's Stop it Here!
Whenever and wherever wars are being prepared and trained for, we need to stop them. Wars start here, and therefore we can stop them from here. We invite you, your grandmother, your summer flirt and everyone else you can think of, to an international camp against militarism taking place in Luleå (Northern Sweden) and it's surroundings from July 22nd to July 29th 2011. The camp will include a seminar about resisting war July 23rd-24th, and a day of action against NEAT July 26th.
