Launch of New Database on Trident Replacement

en

http://tridentreplacement.net is an accessible collection of documents about the replacement of the UK's current Trident nuclear weapons system.
Launched with more than 1,000 entries, the http://tridentreplacement.net database provides a rich source of publicly available documents relating to almost all aspects of the government's decision to replace the UK's current nuclear weapons system.

We're launching the database today, on the anniversary of the dropping of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945, with the aims of:

* informing debate and encouraging research on the development of the next generation of nuclear weapons;

* making this information widely available.

The site is organised into sections covering broad range of subject areas including international diplomacy, government, media, companies, Aldermaston and Burghfield. There are separate sections on warheads, missiles and submarines, and on the planning process at AWE Aldermaston.

Each section is further subdivided with tabbed headings for easy retrieval. Two search functions allow detailed searches or quick dips into the latest news.

http://tridentreplacement.net grew out of research into the current development programme at AWE Aldermaston, equipping Aldermaston to research, design and build a new generation of nuclear warheads.

The site is being launched as the debate about Trident replacement grows in parliament and the media, and among the general public.
http://tridentreplacement.net aims to bring this rich source of material to policy, research and advocacy organizations, individual researchers and academics, journalists, campaign groups and all those interested in the replacement of Trident.

http://tridentreplacement.net is funded by the Nuclear Education Trust.

* Site development and maintainance, research and uploading is carried out by members of Aldermaston Women's Peace Camp.

* Technical assistance and hosting is donated by Netuxo (a workers co-operative, providing IT solutions and support services to small groups, NGOs and businesses).

* Thanks also to anonymous donors.

We'd like to know how tridentreplacement.net works for you. Can you navigate the site easily? Does the search function get what you wanted? Is the databse useful to you?

http://tridentreplacement.net is work in progress. There are many gaps in the database: new documents will be added on a ongoing basis. If you can't find what you're looking for or
have suggestions about sources we should include, let us know.
