New publication: Voices of Peace: Stories of Conscientious Objectors from Europe and Beyond
A new publication, Voices of Peace: Stories of Conscientious Objectors from Europe and Beyond, brings together testimonies of people who have refused participation in war and military service across different countries and contexts.
The publication includes personal stories - past and present - from eight countries, highlighting the experiences of people who refused military service, often at great personal cost.
Jointly produced by the Quaker Council for European Affairs, War Resisters’ International, Connection e.V., and Agir Pour La Paix, the publication presents the stories of conscientious objectors through first-hand testimonies.
Beyond documenting individual experiences, Voices of Peace also reflects on solidarity, resistance, and the importance of defending conscientious objection as a fundamental human right. Featuring stories from Türkiye, Israel, Russia, Eritrea, Belgium, Greece, Spain, and Finland, the publication offers an important reminder that, even in times of growing militarisation, there continue to be people who choose peace, resistance, and refusal.
