GERMANY: Total objector Malik Sharif again sentenced to 21 days

en

War Resisters' International was informed by the Germany based Campaign Against Conscription, that total objector Malik Sharif was again sentenced to 21 days of arrest yesterday. Malik Sharif, 19, is in arrest at the military barracks of Breitenburg since 3 November, for refusing to obey orders and to perform military service. His first arrest of 14 days ended on 18 November, and he was immediately rearrest after his release.

It is common practice in Germany to arrest total objectors several times, for a total of up to 84 days of military arrest, although arrest is not allowed as a punishment, but only as a disciplinary means, to "correct" the behavious of a conscript. After serving arrest, total objectors are discharged from the army, and the matter is passed on to civilian courts, which normally give sentences of up to several months imprisonment.

War Resisters' International demands the immediate release of total objector Malik Sharif and all imprisoned conscientious objectors.

War Resisters' International calls for letters of support to Malik Sharif:

War Resisters' International calls for letters of protest to the German authorities and to German embassies abroad.
