GERMANY: Total objector arrested

War Resisters' International was informed by the Germany based Campaign Against Conscription, Forced Labour and Military, that Malik Sharif, 19, was arrested on 3rd November, when he presented himself at the military barracks in Breitenburg. Malik Sharif was arrested, because he refused to obey to any orders. Some time today a decision will be made about his arrest. It is normal practice in Germany to give total objectors several arrest terms of first 7 days, then 14 days, and then two times 21 days - a total of 63 days - until they are declared unfit for service and passed on to the legal institutions for a trial because of desertion.

According to the Campaign against Conscription, there are at maximum 150 total objectors in Germany every year.
