ISRAEL: update on COs

CO LEONID KRESSNER (ISR11598)

Leonid Kressner is no longer on hunger strike. He continues to refuse wearing uniform and is still held in the isolation ward. He was reported to be in good spirit.

Yesterday Sergeiy Sandler from New Profile received a detailed letter that Leonid sent out before going to prison. The letter contained a more detailed and precise account of the history of Leonid's case. The most important fact that I did not mention up to now (because I was not sure about it, but now the letter confirmed it) is that this term is in fact Leonid's second term of imprisonment. He was detained for a week on base and then imprisoned for 28 days in Military Prison No. 6 several months ago for refusing to carry arms.

CO YAIR HALPER (ISR11599)

Yair Halper was transferred yesterday to Military Prison No. 6. His new prison Address is:

Yair Halper

Military ID 7237405

Military Prison No. 6,

Military postal number 03734,

IDF

Israel.

Please remember to send copies of protest letters on Yair's behalf (preferably by fax) to the commander of his new prison, i.e. to: Commander of Military Prison No. 6,

Military Prison No. 6,

Military postal number 03734,

IDF

Israel.

FAX: +972-4-869-28-84

In addition, Sergeiy Sandler writes: "Yair was transferred shortly before Adv. Lea Tzemel - a neighbour and friend of the family - came to visit him at Military Prison No. 4. She could not see Yair, but did talk to Leonid Kressner.

Adv. Tzemel also asked the prison staff whether they are receiving letters regarding Yair and Leonid and was told that a very large number of letters came in so far. She was told that the number of letters measures in "thousands rather than dozens". This might have been a bit of an exaggeration but it still shows how wonderful and important is the work you are all doing.

Thank you very much,

Sergeiy Sandler - New Profile"
