Dear readers of CO-Update.

CO-Update No 58 is a little longer than usual. Conscription is being discussed in many countries - either to be abolished, to be introduced, or - in the case of Germany - to again not be decided about. In these discussions it often becomes clear that conscription is about more than just military recruitment - it is close linked to issues of gender, the nation state, and so on.

Besides discussions on the introduction or abolition of conscription, conscientious objection has also been one issue during the 99th session of the Human Rights Committee. We report on the discussions and conclusions in relation to Estonia, Israel, and Colombia. The work of War Resisters' International - in the form of reports and other information - contributed to some degree to this outcome.

To continue to do this work War Resisters' International depends on your donations. We therefore kindly ask you to donate to WRI online at wri-irg.org/en/donate-en.htm.
