ISRAEL: Conscientious objector Victor Sabranski sentenced to 28 days in prison

War Resisters' International was now informed that Victor Sabranski, who reported to the induction base on 24 April (as reported in ISR12053-250402), was sentenced to 28 days incarceration in Military Prison No 4 on 26 April 2002. Due to technical blunders of the prison staff, Victor Sabranski wasn't able to contact his family for more than two days. In his letter to the Ministry of Defence, Victor Sabranski writes: "I was raised on democratic values... I believe in full equality among people... I am sure the main reason I have not yet declared refusal is the fear... and the social pressure applied... by the Israeli society to enlist in the State's military forces... I am not a soldier at all, I am still a boy and I was born into this world to live and not to die in the Territories for the misguided policy of the State and the Military..." Victor Sabranski is due to be released on 19 May 2002.
