ISRAEL: More refuseniks in prison
On 10 December - International Human Rights Day - at least 10 refuseniks are imprisoned in Israel, in breach of international human rights standards. Besides Jonathan Ben-Artzi (ISR12371) and Uri Ya'acobi (ISR12376), whose cases were reported yesterday (see http://wri-irg.org/news/htdocs/09122002a.html), at least eight other refusenik are in prison.
Dror Boimel (ISR12373) was sentenced for the fifth time on 3 December - another 28 days. He already spent 91 days in prison, and will have spent a total of 119 days in prison when he finally will be released on 30 December. It has to be feared that he too will be reimprisoned, and not sent to the Incompatibility Committee. Dror Briomel was first sentenced on 5 September, and was again sentenced on 26 September, 23 October, and 5 November 2002. He is held in Military Prison No 4.
First Sgt. (res) Kobi Gabai-Yorista (ISR12804) was sentenced to 10 days for refusing to serve in the Occupied Territories on 3 December. He is due out on 11 December. He is held in prison 6.
Major Chen Alon (res.) (ISR12805) was sentenced to 21 days for refusing to serve in the Occupied Territories on 25 November. He is presently held in prison 6, and is due to be released on 11 December.
Staff Sgt. M.G. (res.) (ISR12806 - wishes to remain anonymous) was sentenced to 21 days for refusing to serve in the Occupied Territories on 25 November. He too is held in prison 6 and is due out on 11 December.
Staff Sgt. Dror Lutzatti (res.) (ISR12807) was sentenced to 18 days for refusing to serve in the Occupied Territories on 3 December. He is held in prison 6, and is due to be released on 20 December.
First Sgt. Eshel Herzog (res.) (ISR12808) was sentenced to 28 days for refusing to take part in the occupation on 3 December. He is held in prison 6, and is due to be released on 28 December.
Itzik Shabbtai (res.) (ISR12809) was sentenced to 28 days for refusing to serve in the Occupied Territories on 26 November. He is held in prison 4 and is due out on 23 December.
