ISRAEL: New objectors in prison
War Resisters' International learned about new imprisonments of Israeli conscientious objectors.Alex Kohn (ISR14726) is presently serving his eighth prison term - again 14 days. On release from his seventh prison term (see co-alert, 7 September 2005, http://wri-irg.org/news/alerts/msg00041.html), he was told that his case would be heard by a so-called discharge committee, and was sent home meanwhile. Only a few hours later he received a call from the army, which cancelled that decision and ordered him to return immediately. He was then sentenced to his eighth prison term of 14 days, bringing the total to more than 130 days.
Orwa Zidan (ISR14753) is presently serving his third prison term. He arrived at the induction base with medical papers stating he was ill, but was nevertheless sent to prison for his third prison term immediately. He has recently been hospitalised due to illness.
Shaul Mograbi-Berger (ISR14754) was sentenced on 28 September 2005 to 14 days in prison. This is his third prison term.
Uri Natan (ISR14762) was sentenced on 28 September to his first prison term - 7 days.
War Resisters' International calls for letters of protest to the Israeli authorities, and Israeli embassies abroad. An email letter can be sent at http://www.wri-irg.org/co/alerts/20050930a.html.
War Resisters' International calls for the immediate release of conscientious objectors Alex Kohn, Shaul Mograbi-Berger, Orwa Zidan, Uri Natan, and all other imprisoned conscientious objectors.
