Activistas noviolentos de 32 países denunciaron el desplazamiento forzado y la violencia de las multinacionales en la conferencia de la Internacional de Resistentes a la Guerra (WRI-IRG), que se celebró en Gujarat Vidyapith esta pasada semana. WRI-IRG, Gujarat Vidyapith, Gujarat Sarvodaya Mandal y Sampoorna Kranti Vidyalaya han organizado conjuntamente una conferencia para explorar los vínculos entre militarimo, empresas que se lucran con la guerra, y los patrones de desarrollo que se siguen en todo el mundo hoy en día.

The War Resisters’ International condemns the arrest on 28 January 2010 of Mohammed Khatib of Bil’in, Palestine.

The War Resisters’ International Council, assembled in Ahmedabad, India, learned of the arrest of Mohammed Khatib by the Israeli military at his home at 1:45 am yesterday. Mohammed Khatib has played a central role in the popular committee planning and coordinating the struggle of the Bil’in village against the Apartheid Wall, constructed by Israel inside the 1967 occupied territories.

On 10 February 2007, police of UN Mission in Kosovo opened fire with rubber and plastic bullets on an unarmed demonstration in Prishtina killing two people. The police concerned have since returned to their country, Rumania, without being held accountable for their action. Now EULEX – the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo – has re-opened proceedings against Albin Kurti, the spokesperson of the movement Vetëvendosje which organised the demonstration.

We, members of the War Resister’s International (WRI) and all participants of the Triennial conference held in Ahmedabad from 22-25 January 2010 have, as part of our deliberations, also discussed the current situation in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

Existen una conexión ineludible entre el desplazamiento inducido por la globalización, el desempleo y el despojo que son el resultado de guerras internas y saquean a las comunidades indígenas que viven de recursos naturales. Existe una conexión entre esta y las monstruosas guerras internacionales – sin importar si son combatidas en Afganistán, Irak, Congo o Somalia. Por lo que el mayor desafio es el construir alianzas que sean al mismo tiempo locales y globales, y que no sólo resistan las injusticias sino que también presenten una alternativa.

Introducción

En este informe se presentan los logros alcanzados por la Internacional de Resistentes a la Guerra desde el año 2006, así como los desafíos que obstaculizan una mayor efectividad por parte de la organización. Como siempre, comenzaremos por el mundo en el que vivimos. La IRG se centra principalmente en dos asuntos: el rechazo a la guerra y el fomento de los movimientos noviolentos.

George Willoughby, 2002George Willoughby died on 5 January 2010. He was 95. His death came just short of the one year anniversary of the passing of his wife and partner in peace, Lillian, who died on January 15, 2009, just a few feet from where George spent his last minutes.

George and Lil were always there for peace, and it seemed would always, like rocks, be there for us. They were our touchstones and our teachers. Now, both are gone.

Bill Sutherland (left)Bill Sutherland, unofficial ambassador between the peoples of Africa and the Americas for over fifty years, died peacefully on the evening of January 2, 2010. He was 91.

Andrew Rigby's 1991 book, Living the Intifada (Zed, 1991) is now online at http://civilresistance.info/rigby1991. At the time he wrote this, Andrew was convener of the WRI Middle East Working Group. This is a full-length study of the first intifada, including useful discussion on the issues of violence and nonviolence.
