ISRAEL: Israel continues to imprison conscientious objectors

War Resisters' International wants to draw attention to the continued imprisonment of conscientious objectors in Israel. Those imprisoned still need our support (see below).

Noam Sharon (ISR13652) was sentenced to 28 days in Military Prison No 6 for refusing to serve in the Occupied Territories on 19 August. He is due out on 13 September 2003.

Asaf Alberstein (ISR13653) was sentenced to 28 days in Military Prison No 6 for refusing to serve in the Occupied Territories on 1 September. He is due out on 26 September 2003.

Asaf Berewald (ISR13654) was sentenced to 28 days in Military Prison No 6 for refusing to serve in the Occupied Territories on 2 September. He is due out on 26 September 2003. His statement can be read at http://www.yesh-gvul.org/english/prison/?act=view&cmd=294

Dudu Rotman (ISR13655) was sentenced to 16 days in Military Prison No 6 for refusing to serve in the Occupied Territories on 2 September. He is due out on 17 September 2003.

Already in prison are Salman Salameh (ISR12602), a Druze conscientious objector sentenced to six month imprisonment for desertion. He is due to be released on 31 December 2003.

Still in "open detention" are Haggai Matar (ISR12701), Adam Maor (ISR12843), Noam Bahat (ISR12842), Jonathan Ben-Artzi (ISR12371), Matan Kaminer (ISR12840), and Shimri Tzamaret (ISR12847). All are at present being court-martialed after serving several disciplinary sentences.
