Dear Mr President George W. Bush

I am very concerned about the recent sentencing of US conscientious objector Katherine Jashinski. On 23 May, she was sentenced to 120 days of imprisonment, after her conscientious objector application had been turned down. During her court martial, even her commanders testified that Katherine Jashinski was sincere in her beliefs as conscientious objector.
The United States recognises the human right to conscientious objection in principle, but in practice many conscientious objectors are denied to exercise their right, and are sentenced by military courts instead - just as has happened to Katherine Jashinski. This in practice is a violation of their human right to conscientious objection.
I therefore urge you to recognise the right to conscientious objection also in practive, and to immediately release Katherine Jashinski and all imprisoned conscientious objectors. I urge you to respect human rights.
