The Right to Refuse to Kill: a War Resisters' International project
Project index page
Refusing to bear arms has the answers. Refusing to bear arms is the only comprehensive, international publication on conscription and conscientious objection. It contains information on all key issues related to compulsory military service in one report.
Refusing to bear arms is a handbook, designed as a reference for research purposes. It will be especially valuable for groups working on conscientious objection, and for lawyers and advocates working on asylum cases.
This world-wide survey is a project of War Resisters' International, a network of over 80 organisations worldwide committed to non-violence and actively working for peace. To complement a thorough collection of pre-existing, printed data, first-hand information was gathered from both government and non-governmental sources in as many countries as possible. In addition, experts in the countries surveyed were asked to comment on the draft reports. As much as possible, both the official articulation of the laws, and the actual practice and application of those laws, are discussed.
Refusing to bear arms is a collection of 177 country reports in a loose-leaf format. This format makes it is easy to update individual country reports as new information becomes available. It also leaves room for users to insert their own additional information.
