Dear Lt Gen Thomas F. Metz
I am deeply concerned about the case of conscientious objector Gabriel I. Johnson, who was sent to the Gulf on 7 April 2003.
Gabriel I. Johnson filed a request for discharge as a conscientious objector. According to US Army regulation he therefore has to be assigned to military duties which "minimally conflict with his stated beliefs" - certainly a deployment to a war zone cannot be seen as being in "mininal conflict" with Johnson's stated beliefs.
I therefore ask you why you ordered that Gabriel I. Johnson should be shipped to Iraq, inspite of his request for discharge as a conscientious objector? I call on you to give order to immediately return Gabriel I. Johnson to the USA, until his claim for conscientious objection is reviewed.
